A saxophonist, composer, producer and educator Jason Davis grew up in Dallas, Texas. He is a classically trained clarinetist. His Jazz training comes from gospel and blues roots. He has studied music with Sylvester Wallace, Dean Hill, Norman Fisher, Tom Burchill, Curtis Bradshaw, Prof. James Williams Sr., Rose Coleman and Uriah Ellion Jr. This list of legendary educators has helped to establish a solid musical career that began in 1984. Audiences and fellow musicians can feel the soul from his live performances. Jason has recorded and performed with many legendary artists in many styles of music. Presently, Jason Davis plays and teaches all of the musical instruments including flute, piano, bass, drums and harmonica. With this talent he spends the majority of his time producing and recording music for various artist. Jason leads a 21-piece Jazz Big Band that performs for special occasions and also performs regularly with Mahogany and the Jam Box.
As a composer Davis has published original Big Band charts and also has released hundreds of songs on the web. As a saxophonist, Jason Davis has recorded with many well known popular acts. He was awarded the Jazz Innovator of the year award by the Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month organization (2015). Presently, Jason is managing a state of the art recording studio through the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs at The South Dallas Cultural Center. He is known as the “South Dallas Mayor” and considered a Texas Tenor.
Jason and his quartet will be joined by the Jazz Band at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at the end of the Friday night session.
